If you receive an email purportedly from a title agency/escrow officer requesting wiring instructions or with wiring instructions attached and you did not solicit these instructions from the title agency/escrow officer directly, call for verification. Title agencies/escrow officer are not responsible for any monies wired to an incorrect bank account from an email which was not directly sent by the title agency/escrow officer.
Email hacking and fraud are on the rise to fraudulently misdirect funds for funding purposes. Call your title agency/escrow officer immediately using contact information found from an independent source, such as the sales contract or internet, to verify any funding instructions received.
